Install an overhead crane
Please contact Sander or Luke. We will help you quickly!

Installing an overhead crane is not a standard job. You want minimal downtime, zero hassle and 100% certainty that everything is done safely and according to the right standards. Pol Industrial Movements takes care of this on a turnkey basis: from engineering and transport to assembly, alignment, inspection and delivery. This way, you stay focused on your production, while we install your overhead crane and deliver it ready for use.
What is an overhead crane and why does a good installation count?
An overhead crane (also known as an overhead crane) runs on a crane runway above your workplace and helps move heavy loads safely and precisely. The benefits lie in efficiency, ergonomics and safety. But you only get that profit if the installation is correct: the supporting structure must be up and running, the crane track must be tightly aligned and the electrical supply and safety devices must be properly arranged. That is why we combine craftsmanship with knowledge of standards and a tight project plan.
How do we approach installing an overhead crane?
- For recording and advice: we look at the location, lifting routes, crane range, nutrition and safety.
- Engineering and preparation: we coordinate with the manufacturer and supplier and prepare the crane runway and support structure (including necessary adjustments).
- Logistics and equipment: with our own transport, truck-mounted cranes, mini cranes and aerial work platforms, we bring everything inside safely, even in tight locations.
- Assembly and alignment: we install the crane and power supply, and align the rails/wheels to the correct tolerances for smooth running and minimal wear.
- Testing, inspection and delivery: functional tests and load tests, inspection support and transfer with documentation.
What standards and rules apply to installing an overhead crane?
- Crane design and safety: EN 15011 (bridge and gantry cranes) and EN 13001 (general crane safety).
- Loads and construction: EN 1991‑3 (loads from cranes and machines) and EN 1993‑6 (crane support structures).
- Crane track alignment: ISO 12488‑1 (wheel and track tolerances).
- Steel/crane track CE marking: EN 1090 (construction of steel structures).
- Inspections in the Netherlands: inspection before commissioning and periodically in accordance with the Working Conditions Decree; in practice, often carried out with EKH guidelines for lifting above the hook.
- Future update: The new EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 will replace the Machinery Directive in steps and will largely apply from January 20, 2027. Until that date, the Machinery Directive will remain leading.
What makes Pol Industrial Movements different?
- Turnkey total partner: one point of contact for planning, transport, lifting, assembly/dismantling, testing and delivery.
- Our own equipment: from truck-mounted cranes and mini cranes to aerial work platforms and specialist tools; we can switch quickly, even in difficult buildings.
- European coverage: deployment from the Netherlands and Germany; projects across Europe.
- 30+ years of experience: we combine practical experience in industry and transport with a strict safety and quality regime.
- Specific expertise: installing an overhead crane is a permanent service; we know the pitfalls and ensure a predictable turnaround time.
- Personal contact: short lines of communication with fixed points of contact who know your project from A to Z.
Checklist: Is your location ready for installation?
- Support structure calculated on crane loads and dynamics
- Crane track design tailored to crane capacity, span and running frequency
- Choice of power supply (busbar or festoon) and cable routes determined
- Free hoists and internal access routes set out
- Permits/work permits and inspection scheduled
- Production downtime minimized in planning
Why start now?
Each month of delay costs capacity and production time. With a clear preview, realistic planning and our own equipment, we can deliver quickly and limit downtime. In addition, you can prevent surprises during the inspection by organizing the process in a standards-oriented manner from day one.
FAQs
How long does it take to install an overhead crane?
The lead time depends on engineering, crane/steel delivery times and any permits. When building a new building, count on a few weeks to a few months; relocations are often faster due to the reuse of components.
Do you also arrange the crane runway and CE documentation?
Yes, in cooperation with certified partners, we provide crane/steel including EN 1090 documentation and traceability. You will receive a complete delivery file.
Can you take care of the inspection?
We coordinate with the inspection authority, prepare test loads and tests and provide the necessary documents. So you can get started safely and quickly.
Do you work internationally?
Yes, we operate from the Netherlands and Germany and carry out projects across Europe. One team, one schedule, one point of contact.
