Moving or dismantling a production line is never “just taking it off”. Pipes, cables, software, safety and planning all come together. With our integrated approach to dismantling factory lines, you can control lead time, safety and costs. On this page, you can read how we carry out your project from A to Z and how to reduce downtime without sacrificing quality.

What does professional dismantling of factory lines include?

Dismantling factory lines is the controlled disconnection, expansion, labeling and packaging of complete production lines or line modules, including internal transport in the factory and — if desired — external transport and reinstallation. Think of conveyors, filling and closing lines, labelers, cartoners, palletizing modules and industrial robots. We work for production and packaging companies across Europe and coordinate each project with your OEMs and technical service.

How does the dismantling process take place step by step?

  • Preparation and plan of action: We start with a site survey, inventory assets and routes and record the initial situation. Where appropriate, we create as-built images or 3D scan references and apply match marking and labeling. This speeds up the reconstruction and reduces the chances of error.
  • Safety plan and energy isolation (LOTO): All energy sources are switched off and secured in accordance with lockout/tagout and safe electrical insulation before we work on the line. You can read the practical background in the guidelines of the Health and Safety Authority and the five safety rules in accordance with EN 50110‑1 (explanation by Siemens): five safety rules.
  • Modular disassembly and conditioning: We disassemble each module according to the order plan. Fragile components are protected and packed with industrial packaging, including moisture absorption and impact protection. Everything is labeled and documented with photo sequences and checklists.
  • Internal transport and lifting: With compact, electrically powered mini cranes and lifting equipment, we move modules safely through tight factory corridors and over low-load floors. Do you want to see what compact equipment we use? Watch mini cranes and our machine examples at Pol Compact Lifting.
  • External transport, loading and unloading: Our truck-mounted cranes and trailers ensure efficient loading, securing and transport to the new location at home or abroad. You can read more about crane and combination work at hoisting.
  • Reinstallation, alignment and test: At the new location, we install and align the modules, connect utilities and supervise dry and wet runs with your operators. Delivery takes place with a complete file (labels, diagrams, photo log and test report).

How do we limit downtime and risks?

  • Tight window planning: work in shifts, evenings or weekends where necessary.
  • Parallel workflows: disassembly, packaging and internal transport run side by side in a controlled manner.
  • One point of contact: project management manages work preparation, assembly and transport teams and coordinates with OEMs and EHS/SHEQ.
  • Emission-free and quiet: electric compact equipment for food, pharma and clean zones.
  • Provable safety: LOTO procedures, toolboxes and LMRAs are a standard part of each phase.

For which production lines and sectors is this relevant?

  • Packaging lines: filling, closing, labeling, cartoning, bundling, palletizing and internal conveyors.
  • Food & beverage: bottling, pasteurization, CIP skids, dosing and mixing lines.
  • Non-food manufacturing and process industry: paper/cardboard, plastic, metalworking, personal care and chemistry (ATEX in consultation).

Why choose Pol Industrial Movements?

  • Our own cranes and fleet: <a href="https://www.pol-transport.nl/diensten/hijswerk"><a href="https://www.pol-transport.nl/voertuigen/95-t-m-autolaadkraan">truck-mounted cranes with fly jib and winch, trailers and accessories for precision work across Europe; read more at hoisting and our 95 t/m truck-mounted crane.</a></a>
  • Experienced teams and safety: certified operators, work permits and equipment inspections guaranteed as standard.
  • Scaling up quickly in Europe: organization and planning are set up for projects in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and beyond.

What does dismantling a production line cost?

The price depends on size, complexity and planning. Important cost drivers:

  • Size and weight of modules (lifting and lifting requirements).
  • Complexity of utilities and controls (connect/disconnect).
  • Accessibility and tight spaces (lifting plan, floors, route).
  • Hygiene requirements and production stops (window, night or weekend work).
  • Distance and logistics (external transport, customs/forwarding).

Indicative structure in phases

  • Phase 1 — Preparation: site survey, action plan, safety plan, label strategy.
  • Phase 2 — Disassembly: controlled disconnection, match-marking, packaging, documentation
  • Phase 3 — Logistics: internal movement, loading/securing, external transport.
  • Phase 4 — Reinstallation: installation, alignment, connection, test and delivery file.
Do you want a quick target price? Schedule a short intake. We test scope and planning and provide you with a transparent proposal for each phase.

Safety and compliance: what guidelines do we use?

  • LOTO and safe insulation: read the Irish Health and Safety Authority's practical explanation of <a href="https://www.hsa.ie/eng/topics/physical_agents/safety_in_machinery/lockout_tagout/">lockout/tagout</a>. <a href="https://new.siemens.com/global/en/company/topic-areas/energy/siemens-high-voltage-products/safety/five-safety-rules.html">For the five safety rules for electrical installations, refer to EN 50110‑1 (clear summary by Siemens): five safety rules.</a>
  • As-built and 3D scanning: as an additional tool to rebuild faster and prevent clashes. Background on applications in industrial plants can be found in <a href="https://leica-geosystems.com/en-us/industries/pure-surveying/get-inspired-to-grow-your-business/laser-scanning/power-and-plant">3D laser scanning for power & plant</a>.

FAQs

How long does it take to dismantle an average production line?

The lead time varies from a few days to several weeks, depending on size, accessibility and window work. After a site survey, you will receive a phase-by-phase schedule with clear milestones.

Can you dismantle while (parts of) the factory is running?

Yes, provided that the zones can be separated safely. We work with windows, weekend and night shifts and coordinate this with your production and EHS.

Do you also arrange external transport and installation at the new location?

Yes. With our own truck-mounted cranes and trailers, we provide loading, transport and precision installation. Check out our approach at hoisting.

Is your equipment suitable for food/pharma environments?

Yes. We use compact, electrical equipment for emission-free and silent work. See mini cranes for examples.

What documentation will I receive upon delivery?

You will receive a delivery file with labels, photos, schedules and test results, plus any scan and alignment reports. This supports reconstruction, maintenance and audits.

See for yourself how quickly and safely your line can be dismantled. Feel free to request an intake or site survey now.
